This church, organized in 1837, is one of the oldest in Rockland County.
The Chapel was completed in 1843 on land donated by Jacob Sloat. The
parsonage was built in 1894. The original Chapel was moved when Route 17
was widened and stands today at the rear of the churchyard.

Catholic residents of Sloatsburg originally attended Mass at our Lady of
Mt. Carmel, Tuxedo, NY. Construction of the building started in 1923 and
the first Mass was celebrated on Easter Sunday, 1923. In 1966, Cardinal
Spellman created the independent parish of St. Joan of Arc.
