Mayor & Trustees

Mayor Peter J. Akey

Sloatsburg resident for 28 years. Married and father of three children. Spent 20 years as a Police Officer and Detective 2nd grade before retiring from NYPD. He has worn multiple hats during the last 28 years supporting the Village as Chairman of the Planning Board, Revitalization Committee Member, Captain of the Sloatsburg Dive Rescue Team, Village Constable, member of Trooper Robert V. Conklin Scholarship Committee and Sloatsburg Comprehensive Plan Committee as well as Sloatsburg Master Plan Co Author, which successfully maintained the semi-rural rustic character of Sloatsburg. Served two terms as Sloatsburg Deputy Mayor and is an active member of the Sloatsburg Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce, St. Joan of Arc Church and the Elks. Elected to Mayor on November 3, 2020.

Trustee Marc Bitterman

A third generation and life long Sloatsburg resident continuing his family's legacy of service. He graduated Sloatsburg Elementary and Suffern High Schools, receiving the Trooper Robert V. Conklin award. Upon completion, Marc pursued his higher education at Sacred Heart University.  While attending the university, he volunteered with numerous organizations which taught financial literacy to underprivileged middle and high school students. Continuing his volunteer work, he also tutored fellow students and local high schools students in various school subjects.    Along with his volunteer work, Marc excelled academically, graduating Summa Cum Laude with dual majors in Finance and Economics. He was the recipient of the  Silver Medal of Excellence in the study of economics and named the  John F. Welch Scholar of the University.  Marc has spent his post university career working in finance and financial technology. 

Locally, Marc continues to give his time volunteering in the Village. He has spent 15 years as a member of the Sloatsburg Fire Department and  over 10 years as a member of the Sloatsburg Zoning Board of Appeals. Recently, he has given his time to projects involving the Friends of the Library. He continues to stay involved in his community as he believes community involvement is essential to help foster growth for Sloatsburg. Since Sloatsburg and its residents have helped shaped Marc's life in many ways, he looks forward to working with the residents to help shape its future.

Deputy Mayor John Bonkoski

Born and raised in Sloatsburg. Married with 3 children. Member and former Chief of the Sloatsburg Fire Department and the Mahwah Elk’s. Retired Lieutenant from the Suffern Police Department. Serving on the Village Board since 2005.

Trustee Thomas Donnelly

Resident of Sloatsburg since 1978. Married with 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Current member of the Suffern Central BOA since 2017. Active with Ramapo Police PBA, Rockland County PBA, St. Joan of Arc Church, Member of the AOH, Knights of Columbus, Mahwah Elks, Suffern Mat Club, Suffern Touchdown Club, REACH Foundation. Suffern High School graduate from 1973 with a B.S. degree from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY. Retired Police Officer, Town of Ramapo Police Department and Suffern High School Resource Officer (2000 through 2017).

Trustee Darrell Frasier

Born in Queens, NY, and raised in Charleston, S.C.  Studied Criminal Justice at Palmer College/Trident Technical (S.C) and is a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Spent 20 years as a Police Officer, Detective, and finally Inspector before retiring from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina Police Department.  Currently employed by Mercedes Benz USA, LLC as an Executive Referral Manager within the Customer Advocacy Department. Current member of the Suffern Central School Board of Education, former Chairman of the Sloatsburg Revitalization Committee, former Sloatsburg Library Trustee, and served on the Village Zoning Board of Appeals. Elected to the Village Board on November 3, 2020.
